Everytime I write an article, I usually let my readers make their own inferences and opinions before I share mine. Although the way I write about both will definitely show you a skew in where my opinion lies: it kind of hints at you. Today, I am going to analyze which submarine sandwich restaurant and carry out chain is better overall: Subway or Quiznos. Both are in abundance in the Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and many other areas around the United States and both are available for lunch and dinner. So how can you tell the difference?
Well for one thing, the slogans are different. Quiznos has gone through the last many years with "Mmmmmm toasty," while Subway has gone with their more natural approach of "Subway, Eat Fresh." I am not gonna lie to you, but at first sight, I would rather eat a sub with fresh ingredients on it than one that is toasted, but that is just me. Subway also offers toasted subs made in a baby sized toaster over, but Quiznos has the humungous toaster that they use, giving it a freshly toasted taste.
Subway added breakfast last year, which to my knowledge is very delicious, although I have not tried it myself. Quiznos, afterwards, decided to add breakfast to their menu in response and I have heard that it is nothing compared to Subway's. Subway has more options for breakfast than Quiznos done, including Fresh Fit Breakfast combinations featuring egg whites to replace real eggs.
I have figured out that probably due to their toaster, I like the warmed up, toasted subs offered at Quiznos better than the ones at Subway. I do not feel the little Subway toaster is adequate for anything more than those flatbread breakfast sandwiches. However, for cold cuts, Subway is the place to go, as their meat and lettuce is always fresh and their condiments are always in abundance.
Now here is where I give you my opinion. If you have not guessed yet, I am a Subway fanatic. I think Subway runs circles around Quiznos. Everytime I go there, I get a $5 footlong ham and cheese sub on white bread with lettuce and extra lite mayonnaise. Quiznos quality in my opinion has gone down in recent times. I would have said that Quiznos' salads were better than Subway's salads if they had not taken my favorite one off of the menu. The Rasberry Chipotle Salad at Quiznos was my favorite salad to eat, but they took it off of the menu for whatever reason... I also liked Quiznos Prime Rib Cheesesteak, which is also not on the menu by itself, without their terrible peppercorn red sauce.
Quiznos has just changed way too much on their menu: they change it almost every year. Subway, on the other hand, has stayed familiar, has worked with what they had on their menu already, and not changed too much. A little change is good, but too much is going to garner some longing for the past. In the end, I feel Subway has become a much more successful chain and delivers more delicious food than Quiznos, even if it is not as toasty.
